BREVARD COUNTY JAIL, Fla

A man is in jail today after he fled from deputies and having methamphetamine and a pipe.

Deputies say the received calls about 47-year-old David Helms sleeping in his truck.  He then ran away from the truck after the deputies made contact with Helms. He was tackled and forced into handcuffs, the arresting documents say.  

Upon search, deputies found a bag of meth and a pipe in his pockets.

According to a Facebook Post by Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the suspect became agitated and was screaming and crying like a baby and kicking.  Public safety authorities chained Helms down to the stretcher with handcuffs and leg shackles and took him to the hospital before he was cleared for jail by the hospital physicians. 

At his first appearance, the judge issued a 4,000$ bond, was appointed the public defender, and his next court appearance is June 11, at 9am in front of Judge Brown at the Moore Justice Center in Viera.

According to records, Helms is out on bond on another case for 2 counts of Contracting Without a License and Organized Fraud of 20,000$ or more.  His next court date for that case is on the 28th.
