BREAKING: Deputy Involved Shooting on U.S. 1 Near Pineda Causeway

Sources say 2 people are injured today after an incident near the Shell Gas Station on Highway 1 near Pineda in North Unincorporated Melbourne.
2 subjects were seen fleeing from the area of the Shell station parking lot and a deputy involved incident occurred, reports say. There is crime scene tape along and behind the Jimmy Hula's. Witnesses say they heard gun shots go off, leaving an unidentified person wounded. Another subject got bitten by a police K-9 dog.

This is the third law enforcement related shooting in the county in a week.
STATEMENT BY BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey Gives a Press Conference to the Media at 3:30pm:
Sheriff Wayne Ivey told reporters at 1:05pm today a call came in about a car burglary in progress in the Parking lot of the Shell Gas Station on U.S. 1, just south of Pineda Causeway in Melbourne. Deputies arrived on scene and saw what was a female suspect armed with a gun, brandishing it up in the air as deputies arrived on scene. Another male suspect and the armed female suspect ran behind the Jimmy Hula's next door and attempted to hide into a wooded area where the deputies set up a perimeter.
Sheriff Ivey said the team of deputies gave multiple commands to show hands and to step out of the woods and surrender.
At one point, one of the deputies felt that her life was endanger, the Sheriff said.
Based on how the suspect was pointing the weapon, the deputy fired multiple rounds at the armed and dangerous suspect. The female suspect was struck multiple times, the Sheriff reports.
The male suspect was bitten by a police K-9 dog in order to be apprehended. Officers from the Melbourne Police Department also came out to assist. The Sheriff told reporters today that law enforcement professionals, "they all train together". "We know what they are going to do, and they know what we are going to do."
Both suspects, who aren't yet identified, had active warrants for their arrests.
Sheriff Ivey reports that the female and male suspects were taken into custody and then transported by ambulance to a local hospital and are listed in stable condition.
Sheriff Ivey told the press that he makes no bones about it, and he doesn't apologize:

The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on leave pending the investigation. The deputies and agents on scene will not be identified. This is still an ongoing criminal investigation.
