Hassan Abdirahman Sheikh Ali remains locked up without bail.
A Brevard County Judge denied granting bail for the driver who ran over 2 survey crew workers on I-95 in Palm Bay.
At yesterday's first appearance hearing, the suspect was uttering "I don't understand anything" during the proceedings. The judge ruled Hassan is a flight risk and a danger to the community and withheld bail for the accused murderer.
The Blake Moia Show legal analyst told us that the "Incompetency card" is at play in this case.
He will remain locked up at the Brevard County Jail until trial. His next court appearance is May 29th in Viera.
Authorities say 36-year-old Hassan Abdirahman Sheikh Ali is responsible for killing 2 survey work crew members in today's deadly hit-n-run crash on the grass shoulder of southbound I-95.
He is charged with two counts of hit and run involving death. Troopers say the tractor-trailer driver stopped initially but decided to take off.
“The subject came to a stop, so he obviously had knowledge that he had hit somebody. He stopped for a second and then took off and just kept going, and he put the pedal to the metal,” said Lt. Channing Taylor.
But there were a lot of vehicle parts left at the scene, along with a witness.
The suspect’s truck was later spotted in Palm Beach County, about 130 miles from the crash scene, according to state officials.
“He’s not being very cooperative with us. The company, on the other hand, is being very cooperative. They’re very cooperative with us. They’re incredibly sorry about the loss of the two workers," the Lt. said.
