Brevard County Authorities Chase Stolen Car in Melbourne

Melbourne, FL -- 

  • Brevard County Deputies are in pursuit of a stolen car in Downtown Melbourne
  • A sheriff's helicopter is assisting in the search
  • Authorities are looking for a black male wearing a mask who stole a white Toyota

Brevard county authorities are currently in pursuit of a stolen car in the Melbourne area. 

The  chase started early Tuesday morning at around 3am, when deputies spotted a stolen white Toyota in the downtown Melbourne area that was reported stolen.

Authorities, with the help of Melbourne police pursued the stolen car southbound along Babcock Street until the car crashed near the near of Del's Freeze near Babcock Street and U.S. Highway 1. 

The suspect, described as a black male, wearing a mask, fled on foot along U.S. 1. Police cornered off several neighborhoods including Neiman, and Loveridge Heights as a sheriff's helicopter and a police K-9 searched the area. 

An eagle eyed resident reported they saw a person matching the description run between houses and through their backyard along Orange Blossom Drive.

At around 3:30am, the suspect was seen trying to swim away from police at Ballard park. The suspect was taken into custody and faces several charges.

After the suspect was apprehended, deputies reported finding articles of clothing near the crash scene.
