The Florida Highway Patrol says 1 motorcyclist is in custody after fleeing from a trooper and leading them on a wild and dangerous chase along U.S. 1 in Brevard County.
The incident took place late Friday night as radio reports came in asking Melbourne Police for assistance as the motorcycle was fleeing southbound on U.S. 1 from Pineda Causeway.
Melbourne Police units assisted in helping shut down intersections and blocking off tracking due to the on-coming danger.
Reports indicate that the chase reached speeds upward to 125 miles per hour.
As the fleeing motorcycle passed the City of Melbourne limits and crossed into Palm Bay, the Melbourne units backed off. The motorcycle continued south and eventually came to a stop after failing to negotiate a U-turn in the median.
The chase ended in the median in front of the Wet Spot bar on U.S. 1 in Palm Bay.
Witnesses who saw the ending of the pursuit tell TheBlakeMoiaShow.com that they were, "just drinking at the bar and all of sudden we hear this siren."
The spectators say the motorcycle suddenly surrendered to the Trooper by stopping in the median, laying the bike on the ground and then laying on the ground face down.
Another patron told The Blake Moia Show that it looked like the Trooper boxed in the motorcycle as it was trying to do a U-turn.
It remains unclear what the motorcycle was initially being stopped for or why he refused to pull over in the first place.
The reckless evader is being taken to the Brevard County Jail and will remain there until bond court at 10am where a judge will decide bail.
