Trooper's arrest report of Cameron Raymond Patalano

A Putnam County man is sitting in jail in today after he was caught driving 160MPH along I-95 in Brevard County.

Troopers say 21-year-old Cameron Patalano, from Putnam County, was speeding past a marked trooper unit who was sitting stationary in the median along I-95 at mile marker 209. The Trooper reported the car Patalano was driving, a dark colored Chevy Corvette was traveling northbound significantly faster than the other vehicles on Interstate 95.

The Trooper estimated the speed to be around 120 miles per hour as he began pacing the Corvette.

The Trooper began following the reckless sports vehicle for several miles as it weaned in and out of traffic and past by a dozen other slower vehicles, with speeds to be around 160 MPH at one point.

Authorities eventually pulled Patalano over and placed him under arrest under Florida's new 100MPH law, which authorizes Florida law enforcement to make arrests on anyone driving 100MPH on any road, or 50MPH over the posted speed limit.

Patalano advised Troopers that was trying to set a "land speed record" and that he has been driving erratically from Jacksonville to Miami and back for days trying to set the world record. The suspect also admitted to authorities that while in Miami for 12 hours, he was doing "burnouts", "donuts", running red lights and "drifting".

The defendant was charged with reckless driving, racing on the roadways, traveling 100MPH or more, and speeding 50MPH over the posted limit. He was ordered held without bond at the Brevard County Jail by judge Charles Crawford. Judge Crawford said the Defendant is a danger to society and everyone else on the road and will be jailed until trial.
