Post Office in Titusville Closed After Toxic Murcury Spills - What To Know
TITUSVILLE, Fla
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The postal office on 2502 South Washington Ave in Titusville is closed indefinitely after an incident regarding a leakage of mercury occured over the weekend.
Government officials with the United States Postal Service says mercury even in the slightest amounts is considered a hazardous and a non-mailable substance.
In a letter released today by the USPS, officials say they have identified the affected mailings and the effected contents cannot be saved. By law, according to the news release, the effected contaminated package(s) of mail has to be properly disposed of by a third-party independent contractor who is licensed and insured to handle hazardous materials.
The customers affected who purchased insurance have to file a claim with the post office thru their claims process.
